BY-LAW CASES. ■ Richard J. l'arr was finod 10s. and costs 7s. for allowing cows to wander , nt Karori. John M'Grcgor pleaded guilty by letter to a charge of refusing .to pay a tram fare, and was fined ss. and costs XI 3s. ' William Andrews was fined 10s.,- and costs 95., for over-leading a dray. According to a statement ;made by Mr. . James Doyle,' City Inspector, the cart was being driven up Taralmki Street with a load, of 2 tons 1 cwt.,'and two men were ridint; on top of the load. Georgei Wilson was fined 205., and'costs 7s„ for driving a vehicle at other than a walking paeo around the corner of Willis Street and Lambton (juaj. . , , ■ TRUANCY. ' A fairly large batch of truancy cases were dealt with. Joseph Ellis was fined 10s., with costs 75., on one charge, and 55., with costs 75., on another; Joseph Haylock was fined 10s., with costs 75.; Patrick Ryan was fined 10s„ and. costs 75., on one charge, and 25., and costs 7s. on another chargo; Gregory .Barrett was fined 55., without costs j Thomas Hill was'fined ss„ with costs 75.; Harry,Lauder, Mary Marshall, and Frederick Meats were fined 25., with costs 75.; and Walter Delaney and Thomas Crotty were lined 25.,' without costs. : ■ OTHER CASES. ' . ' i James Condon, charged with insobriety,. jvas convicted and fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. . One first offender was convicted and'discharged. 1 . A plea of not guilty was entered by Walter Flatt, charged (1) with insobriety, and (2) with refusing to leave' the Commercial Hotel when requested to do so' by the licensee. Evidence was called to prove that defendant was in the hotel on '/Thursday night, and when under the influence of liquor, got into the' servants' quarters, and caused some trouble. Defendant said he had had a drink or two in' the hotel, but was not under the inllucnce of drink.'' Ho had engaged and paid for. a bed in' tho' hotel, as he intended going away by the morning train. He did ript know tho run of tho house, and lost his iway when looking for room 48. Witnesses wore called to bear out defendant's side of the story, but , an adjournment was made to,; Monday to enable further witnesses for the defence to bo called. . -. Andrew Jacobs, who has been appearing before tho Court'with muoh regularity of late, pleaded guilty: (1) to a charge of habitual drunkenness, and (2) to having procured liquor :duniig the: currency 'of a prohibition order. On the first charge, defendant was convicted and ordered;-, to enter the Pakatoa Inebriates' Homo for a period of twelve months. A conviction and discharge was entered in the second case. \ -J.
