The girl Lundie, aged 13 years, eharged with shooting hor father (Daniel Lundie)-dead at Major's' Creek, near Braidwood,. was .found guilty of- manslaughter, the jury adding a strong recommendation to mercy. The Judge did not pass sentence, but bound tho girl .over to..be ,of good behaviour' for three years. ' . THE GIRL'S EVIDENCED _ At the inquest the accused made the following confession:— ■ ■■ . ■■■■'. 1 > "I. Maggie Lundie, 13 years of age, live at Major s Creek with my parents. I now Wish to /Mathat'l shot my father. J voluntarily and fully make this confession without fear oy favour. Father, mother, and I were in the kitchen about 7 o'ciock'on September 1. Father said ,1k; ivbuld drop a log on - my mother. Mother said, 'If yon do I'll send for Constable Marsh.' ; Father said, 'I'll kill you before I'm done .with .you.'. He turhed round to m'e and said, 'I'll kill you," too.' ' Hoi hod 'ronsed' on me, nnd told u\o to set tidy. I asked if he meant/it. Ho replied, 'You'll see before.the night is out.' I £aid, : 'No,;you 4Won't,, father.', Then I. went'to a drawer safe, took a .cartridge, and put it in a gun. I put the gun alongside the! window whilst I opened it. 1 I then took the gun up, put it on. the window'6ill, and. 'pulled the trigger.' I then, ran in throtigh tho gate past mother. I then went to where fatbor was standing. He went away; I went after him and said,'Fatlier, I done it.' Ho said, . 'What did you' do it for ' I did not : answer.' , He said, 'I .won't tell,anyone yori did jt, to save 'Mother' came and helped ino to'take father to his room. ■ I had a cut face, caused by the s gun kicking, and was afraid to tell Constable Marsh. I went where I hid the'.gun;\tosk out the cart-, ridge; and put' the guh'Anrbiigh .the Window,-; After I told father I did it he said, 'I forgive you, Maggie, and hope God will, , too.' i.ldid notiwish getting anyone intojrouble.vl really thought father would, kill mothersby; the lookinl his eyes.- 'Father was a VioWnt mam I did it to save mother 11 Deceased was.,aged 50ii and:,leaves a- widow' and eight children."'
