MINING' NOTES. -■ Aiburnia.-Tho drive along, the. hangingwall .'sido of the Sons of Freedom; reef' at the Sons of Freedom level-has now been driven lOOft-,-connecting tho. various crosscuts ■' previously driven through the reef. The drive is being carried along In tho hangingwall formation; which is composed of a number of leaders of various Biies;. and in wbich colours and dabs of gold are seen from time to time. A start has also- • been made to rise np for the purpose of carrying along a leading stope over, tho drive 1 Karangahako.—Tho road level crosscut is in 254 ft. The country at -the 'present 'time is somewhat' harder, but'of a good description for gold. The drive is some distance past tho paint whero it was expected to cut the reel, but' it has evidently altered its underlie, and it will most probably be'in hand In a short time, as there is nothing in the country to cut it.pff,' Old Hauraki.-The 400 ft. level i 6 in 98ft. 4in;'Tho reef.averages 61n., and is a mixture of pug and quartz. '.. In the floor of tho drive blotches of gold were'seen in tbetquartz. At the 300 ft. level m the diivo south, No. 8 reef was a fine stronit body of- quartt, but on Friday it : pinched. up. somewhat. The country, however, is still eood. Mr. Jamieson concludes: "Mr.'Shepherd has taken charge of tho-mine, and this is my final report. I wish, you every, success.','.. Royal Oak.—ln the drive west from the winze tho reef averages 9in.. and the stone continues to look woll. -Colours of gold were seen in.tho footwall when breaking down. Tho work is now far enough to allow the eastern end >of the winze to be prospected, and this wiU ho started early next week.- Good progress is Being made with tho intermediate level, but there is no improvement to report in the roof, and tho men willbo shifted to extend tho face of the level another 50ft. Then a rise will bo put up to test tho blocks between tho two levels; Thames.—Tho drive on the hangingwall of tho Gambria reef has been advanced another 12ft. The reef is still 4ft., and the quartz though hard, looks very promising, bnt no values have yet been seen. Thd footwaU is «tlll running parallel with tho hangingwall, separated by about 3ft. of niullock. , •. Magnet.-Tho contractors' drivo is in 60ft. Two bodies of unartz were passed through, one 6in and tho other 2ft. in width. Thb quartz in both of thera is kindly looking. Tho 2ft. reef-is heavily, mineralised. ; The manager considers both bodies belong to the samo reof formation as thore is only 2f(. between them. The country in the face is white blocky andesite. with miiicral seams crossing it. Monte Christo.-Owing to the want of fresh air in tho low level of tho Monte Chrl6lo mine, Coromandcl, tho manager, is putting a rise through to tho surface, which will givo tho desired result, and wiU, enable ■ operations there to be carried on more expeditiously.. The rlso is now up 20ft. in a nice brown andesite class of ceiiti try. Tho reef is 6!n. wido,' and looks well for gold. No. 1 level has been advanced 6ft.,' tho reef thore being amice compact bodv of quartz, with numorous mineral scam 3 Btrikfog into it/' Ngatiawa.—ln tho Ngatiana Consolidated mine Groat Barrier, operations at the Ngatiawa nor, tion of the mine havo been confined to breaking out supplies and assaying the same. The re. suits, says the manager show that the outcron will yield highly-pflyablo oro, - also that thoro is payable oro in the riss from No, 1 level, to the surface. In order to test the mine more fully, it has been decided to put the battery in, working prdtr- M il to.eoanwt it with thu mine by completiag the presaat utiii trim.
