Captain Morrisby and.many members of the orow of tho Canadian mail liner Marnma assembled aboard on September 18 to bid goodbye to' one of their shipmates. Mr.-J. H. C. Eroad; purser of tho Maramn, and one of tho best known"'Df tho Union Company's officers, was leaving the'vessol after serving three years on the Marnma and Manuka in tho cross-Pacific runl and the captain took the opportunity of-presenting him on behalf of his shipmates with a handsome smoker's companion, at the same time making some flattering references to' Mr. Broad's service under him. Sir. Miidie, tho ohief engineer, also made eulogistic remarks about the retiring purser.
