;;■ •.-.' ; ;' •- ; .:.MINING. NOTES. : ■'- ; '• . Knran'ui.—ln the crosscut cast of Blyth's reef the stringer is 12 inches wl<le, c of rather - flinty appearance. A large body of watei is Sowing from the reef. In the main drive' the leader has pinched to about three inches, but carries minerals. The body..of quartz, No.\l west," is. 18 inches wide, and .the''oro*broken''is;being' saved for treatment. In the Shellback tunnel, No. 1 north,, the dropper is Btrikine into the main reef, and will shortly Join it. -In No. 2 north the leader is riot so rubbly. '■' •■ .-.'.' ' Golden Pah—The leader in the south' stopo from No. 1 rise is four inches in; width, carrying a splendid hansingwall. In tho'north stope tho leader is 2ft. 6in. wide, and heavily' mineralised. The hanginswall. is disturbed in this stopo. The leading.stone abovot-the intermediatehas broken through to-thcYenna shaft. In' No. 2 stope, the leader is about' 2ft. in thickness, and -when brealiine-down a few, small peb-. blcs were got on the footwall, showing. very coarsb gold. A splendid bar of mineral-is running ; through the reet where the gold wib got. This, stope is coming oTor tho main rise.i wherethe goldwae got below. '..>.. ..; . ■■. ■-~ Karangahake;—During ,tho past "week tho, road lovel orossent has. been ■ extended' an additional 36ft., making the total length of the tunnel 228 ft. The country.'continues to v bo. of a-flret-class description .for J speedy, progress,- and carrying gold-bearing reefs, it. being mineralised/ jointly sandstone, with small nuarU leaders and mineral .veins running through it... As we are now'inthe calculated diEtance where the reef should be met, it should shortly be to band.. . Pride of Tokalca.—The drivo going east on the footwall lode, at the low level, is in a distance of about 30ft. The-lode continues to look well, but has not improved in value. The:hard flinty band,- which has been accompanying- the reef for some distance,?;seems to be pinching out, and giving place to a much more favourable class of; country.,- From appearance, better results should bo met with at this point at any time. ' Stoping-'east arid west; on the cross'lode over the Iqw level ia in progress. A highly mineralised class of-country is being penetrated, and the reef looks'< really' voll, being ' in places. 10 inches/in width.' ,Ore of a,good auallty'iscoming to hand; from which- at last -breakingdown Wlb. of picked-stone, as advised by wire, were obtained. ■ A very, extensive block is avail, ablo here for stoping, and from the present appearances it should be highly payable.
. Talma .Golden Hills.—No. 4. level: Tho.. contractors, having completed their cootroct.of sOOft. driving, tenders'were called for. driving! a'further 200 ft., the tendered vprioca ranging : from 19s. 6d. to 275. 6d. per foot, and the.lowest was accepted. Nothing so far has occurred!in this level, to call for- .special mention. .At! No. 3 level-.'stoping has .been held in abcyauco till Eomo otlier preparatory : • work .has 'beea completed. The sixths.rise hns been; cleared of, quartz, and tlio, necessary timbers placed in position. Immediately below No. 2tliolcvel or top section of the south rise is boinß onlßrged to form a hopper for the reception-of quartz , from that level) I am also calling for tenders for eicavatinr: -open cutting, - through -which tho aerial line .will pass- from mine tp mill. ■*
May Queen.—The crosscut, to Intersect the' main reef at the ICOOft; level: of the Queen of Beauty; shaft is in 174 ft. Tho fact that tho reef has not,yet been mot with is probably owing to a change of underlie. A small leader, from 2in. 'to 4in. thick, has been paseed through; This has every -appearance: of,- being a dropper from the maili reef, and the country behind it in thq .face, is better, and is makine a little more mineral. The manager is of the opinion that the reef Iβ now riot far distant In the No. 9 level the : leading stope is beinn continued on the main reef. The quartz is of payable Quality, and has opened.out to a width of about 3tt.r In the Jtay -Queen section Hoping oneratlona at the-diffexeat levels ■Mβ-being wiy
tinucd, and are producing a steady supply of fair grade oro, on which tho battery ie kept' running. In tho Moanataiari section the drive on the Cambria reef, at No. 3 level, is being continued towards the : boundary of tho Waiotahi mine, the drivo. having been extended Bft. for the week ■ along the reef,- which in places is carrying good mineral indications! Old Alburnia—A connection has been made between tho first crosscut driven , through tho Sohb of Freedom reef, and the crosscut to'tho eaetwards. There arc seven to eight feet to drivo to connect with tho ■ crosscut on tho western side. l Gold has been seen very freely during the week, distributed through the quartz in both of thesp drives. Two other drives are in progross between tho crosscuts further westward;- A little gold Uaa been- sedn in each of them.- , '..'..' •:• ■ ■ , ■ Eeliance.—ln the crosscut the country shows no change. This belt has now been penetrated Saxon.—-A trial• crushing haß' been taken. from tho block recently started. , This crushing is now nearly completed, and in consequence of its; very lay value further stoping hae jbeen stopped. lit. \ Weloomo'.—The , low level ,'is in 78ft. Course pebbly sandstone ,ig boing, which in not favourable for. gold. (The, Blue Peter lode in the stopo is 4in. wide, of a' dark blue colour, and full of mineral. The manage! hopes to start sinking the, winze this week.
