OBITUARY.

-,' ' MR, A. E. CURTIS. The death of Mr. A! H! Curtis, a well-known Wellington newspaper man, occurred at : his residence, 36 Pino Street, on' Friday evening. The late Mr. Curtis, who was 57 years of age,' was born in Wellington,' and began his newspaper career as an.apprentice on the'"Evening Post." He.attei'wavas worked in the Government ..Printing Office, and. then on. the lington Argus,"- becoming printer" of:the latter when it was merged, into tho :"Chronicle." ,H& next went to Palmerston' North, where he was connected with' one,of. the .journals there for about twelve months, subsequently removing to Feilding; where lie was partner with Mr. Kirtbn in the ownership of the' Feilding "Star." The partnership lasted for 26 years, when Mr. Curtis retired.. .

During his. long residence in Foilding,, Mr. Curtis was a leading member' of several local institutions. . He -$aa< one of. the; first . members of the Feilding'Jockej\ Club,- and' actqd on the. committee for'a; groat'many years;-be-' ing. evcntualljv paid; the compliment of an honorary life : membership. .He" had occupied the position of ' director on -the Permanent Building; Society's ; Board; was one •of the founders of . the Feilding : Lodge, and was a member of . the Bowling Club, tlie Gentlemen's Club, and other 1 bodies.'
