Const-able Lanigan said Sjuith was a settler of Papakura, "and was a prohibited, person, but had been in .a\ cojititiual state of drunkenness for the lasu, three-weeks., He (witness)- had appealed 'tcj- the; licensees of both hotels prohibited person's with liquor, .and they.had promised to help lnm. Tie was 1 not in a position to say whether Smith had obtained his drinlc . from cither of these two houses, but he had been* getting a tremendous amount of drink from somewhere. e ,Tho chairman suggested a - fortnight's adjournment to go into the .question. : . Nicholson, on behalf of the.licensee of the rapakura Hotel, objected, .as also did Mr. Gregory, who appeared for the licensee of tho Globe. ■ Tho chairman" said an adjournment was due to the licensees. Tho settlor's wife had mode a complaint, and evidently believed she had good grounds for doing so, .but sho had sprung a surprise on the licensees.
