Paulhan established a new world's record for aeroplanes (one-man flight), both in point of distance covered and duration of flight. He'remained in-the air for 2 hours 43 minutes 28 seconds, and covered 81 2-5 miles; thus. substantially exceeding Mr Wilbur Wright's flight' last year at Le Mails— 56 miles in 1 hour 31 minutes 25 seoonds. ' During the concluding portion of his flight M. Paulhan gallantly contended with rain and a high wind, until his supply of petrol was exhausted.. ; Mr. Hubert Latham in his monoplane covered 18 J mil-es in 32 minutes. [The prize ; money to be distributed at the Rneims meeting amounts- to .£BOO9. It is the long-distance competition, under the ; title of Grand Prix de la Champagne et de la Ville de Bheims, which is regarded as the great event The six prizes with, which it is endowed are .£2OOO,- - <81000," .£4OO, and three prizes of £200 \ each. ■ They will be awarded to the six aviators who. may on' their, respective machines cover the greatest distance m the air.
