AN INTERESTING COMPETITION,

WON BY THE CHAIRMAN,

At the-annual meeting of tho Raumati Co-operative Cheese Company on Saturday, the chairman (Air. J. Hart) congratulated suppliers on tho satisfactory stato of - tho company's affnira. Tho lato manager hud achieved somewhat of a record in manufacturing a pound of cheese out of 9.6 pounds of milk, and only taking 1 pound of butterfatto make 2.65 pounds of cheese. Such figures spoke well of- tho condition oi tho milksdelivcred, and' showed tlio necessity of keeping the milk up to the highest standard possible. On the motion of Mr. White and Mr. Massie, it was resolved that £428 6s. Bd. be paid to suppliers on butter-fat pro rata, as recommended by the, directors. _ The result of a cleanliness competition for a hoifor presented by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency C 0.,. judged dry Messrs. D. Munro' and A. Cooler was : announced. The prize was awarded for consistent cleanliness in and about tho milking shed, and Messrs. Hart and Wallaco bad tied for first place.- It was suggested that the suppliers should decide on who was. to get the prize.. Finally, after consultation between tho winners, lots were drawn, ■ and resulted in favour of Mr. Hart. _ Mr. Hart said ho was pleased at.winning, and he hoped next year that both winners would be beaten by someone still more worthy. '.-.', ' Mr. Walker. congratulated Mr. Hart on winning, and hoped the prize would be. a good one. He himself, had not taken any special care with the. exception of keeping his shed clean arid cooling his milk well. _ Replving to a suggestion of Mr. Aspin that remuneration should be given to tho chairman for so well looking after the company's affairs, Mr. Hart said he had made a hobby of the work, as he was anxious to make the company a success. Ho would not like tho company to pay him this year, as it was the first year of tho company's operations.. ■ • ■ ' i The meeting, however, was unanimously of the opinion that Mr. Hart should be compensated", for", his services, and tho fixing of the remuneration was referred to a committee of suppliers. . • -
