Kerr (Hamilton, Ontario) by a yard.from the 220 yards champion, N. J.. Cartmcll (Pennsylvania), in 10 l-ssec. M. Chapman, ot'the Finohley Harriers, was third: later; on, in a 220 yards .level invitation race, tKerr- again 'beat Cartmcll by half a yard in 22-iec.--tho.samo time as Cartmell accomplished when he won the championship on tho-previous Saturday. L. J. de B. Reed (L.A.C.) was third. At tho .same meeting the Midland Counties high-jumping championship was won. by .the A.A.A. champion, J.. H. Banks, of the Sparkhill .Harriers, with a leap of sft. 7in. _ . At the Polytechnic Harriers' sports, held- at Stamford. Bridge, R. E. -Walker, .of South Afiioa, won the : 150 yards level' race in the fine time of 15sec. dead. E. W. Haley, of the- -Heme Hill ■ Harriers, was .second,, four yards away. A 300 yards scratch.hurdle race was. won by V. Duncker (South. Africa) in jJOsec. ' ' , Chief interest in the Polytechnic Harnors sports at Stamford Bridge centred in the coinpetition by points among several of the lead-ing-clubs for the. right to hold a.challenge trophy presented by Lord Kinnaird. The system of scoring in the various events was foutpoints for a. first, three for a second, two fora'third, and one for, a fourth. The result Was a win-for the Polytechnic Harriers with 275 points. The London Athletic. Club, although, not represented in all.the events, came next with 14 points; Heme Hill Harriers wore third with 13J points,. At the Norwood' Lawn Tennis Club's tournament, 'which was finished on Saturday, Mr. F. Goodwin won- tho, ladies'- open singles, Messrs, F. W. Rahe and'D.AV, Hitching the gentlemen's .open doubles,. and Mr. A.. GoodWin ■ and Miss E. Goodwin the mixed doubles: ■ At Lord's, Mr.'.'E.'H.' Miles, the'holder: of the M.C.C.' gold -racquet at tennis, successfully defended the trophy from'the challenger, Mr.; H. M. Cazalet. Mr. -Miles'won by 3 sets to love, with scores of ; 6—o, 5—2, 6—2. July 10, Scotland beating Ireland-by 106 shots to 56 and -Wales defeating England after a : sensational finish by 76 shots to 75. Scotland win the championship with a win against each of the other three countries. Wales, on tho aggregate number of shots, are placed second. i In-a ten-round-contest at-'Los. Angeles,-A. D. Wolgart, of Milwaukee, had all the better of Battling. Nelson, the 'Illinois champion lightweight. The' law, states -Router,, does not permit a decision, but Nelson was thoroughly whipped.at the end of the tenth rouud.
