THE TURF.
ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. "Clog Kelly" (Toihape)—Parlourmaid, by Tho Mute, from Maid of All Work. NOTES, A'ND COMMENTS. i , / [Dl GI.KNCOS] On Thursday theie will be Hunt Club race meetings at Wanganui and at Carterton. Wellington residents can travel to and from the Carterton meeting in the one daj. Speciosa is apparently sound again, as she has been entered for the Eangitikei Steeplc- " chase C Pntohard will take Acma and Lad)' Paul to the Marton meeting next week. Mr. St. Jno. Buckley, owner of All Red, is at present in Wellington. G. Pi ice will probably be starting the three year-old Polvmorphous (Multiform—Ruroom) in the Maiden Race at the Rangitikei meeting. Windage is entered for hurdle races at tho , Marton, Horowhenua, and Rangitikei meetings, and it/ippears as if his trainer is hopeful of curing his tendency to lemain at the staiting post. Entries for tho C.J.C. Stewards' Handicap do not fall due for somo time jet, but, in Christchuich, some folks are already awarding the race to Nantiform, who won the last Welcome Stakes ' * Prizeman, who is entered for the steeplechase at the Eangitikei meeting, is in the same owneiship as Lovell. If he staits ho will be ridden by H. Telford. — Kihndini, who is entered for hack laces at Bulls, is a three-year-old filly by Eilcheran from Mousquotaire. She showed paco on the tracks last year, but was growing too fast to bo raced. x ~ A. Atwood hns three candidates in the hack huidlo races at the Rangitikei fixture—Rosomorni Westona, and Ruemac. Euemac is generally considsred to be the best of them, and he will be ridden by W. Young. The hack, steeplechase events at the Marton and Eangitikei meetings have filled well, arid appear to be increasingly populai with owners of jumpois. Possibly next winter, tile Wellington Racing Club will place a hack steeplechase on the first day's programme at the Trentham winter meeting. At a committee meeting of the Wellington Racing Clab held yesterday afternoon, it was decided that a weight-for-age event should be placed on the programme for the spring meeting. Tho race will be run over one mile and a quarter, and will bo woith 550 sovs, including tho 100 guineas cup recently presented to tho club by Mr. J. B. Harcourt. As the conditions of the race exclude penalties, it should come to bo Regarded as the mile and a quarter championship of tho Dominion, and, being run over such a popular distance, and held in tho spring , of the year, it is sure to draw the best of the Durby candidates, New Zealand Cup candidates, and m fact all the best horses in New Zealand.
