TRAMWAY ACCIDENT.
Sir,—As,-a result of thb accident to a Wallace-Street ear stand that tho mqtorman has been dis-' rated.' On further inquiries, 1 find that lie was not -even, present, at the so-called inquiry, and in consequence ha 3 had no chance to defend himself. Ho ha 3 since-asked for a public inquiry, but cannot'get this. Now, sir,-.can .this, bo called . justice? . 1 consider that every manishbuld .be given a chaiice to defend himself. In England and on the Continent the officials-in charge diavo to prove to the Board of Trade,, or some similar body, that their brakes are in proper .working order. I'erhaps the Tramway Committee, and the'public of this city are. not aworo that brake failures are of no uncommon occurrence, and it has. only been by puro good luck that other accidents'havo ; 'not happened. If • tho official in charge of affairs -read tho'reports on* the 'InternationalTramway Conference at- Munich last year, ho wonld see that magnetic brakes are not reliable.—l am, etc., JUSTICE. August 11.
