WELLINGTON FARMERS' MEAT COMPANY.
THE SITE TROUBLE. \ . Som'4' trouble will pcseibjy' be experienced by the. new Wellington Meat Freezing-.Com-pany, in deciding upon a site. Claims have, already been advanced in ■favour, of . Fexton, Tawa Flat, and; some' portion of the Waira- : rapa (writes our .travelling representative), and judging from tiie statements mado by .t'liDss wno ouglvtto, know .Wairarapa is at present inokt in favour. 11' is. understood that Foxton will be "turned down" , owing to tie. fact that lighters could'not;work, the bar, with,,any. regularity, also tliat-;such;.-;wovk'. wouli.be of .»• very. expeiwiyeriiatin'e-.owingi to .the: fact that the. employment! ■ for.'the. lighters would'only be • intcraittent.---s• The sub-committee which visited fox ton recently, acquired a large amount of- data,on' l,the-sub-ject, and the conclusion .was .that the . place: would riot suit. ' . . ■ .
Tawa Flat was understood to be , a very good site, but it'is now said that tho water supply and' drainage would ' provo a stumbling block for a big meat works. With reference to the Wairarapa, a Mr. Jackson,, of Woodsido, has offered .fifty: acres near tho railway .station as a gift.' - Numerous other offers'have been made, and it is understood that the site at present most favoured is between Carterton and the Waingawa lliveiyadistance of about four miles from the town. It is very probable that before the final decision nest month a sub-committee from the ncwly-fonned company will visit the Canter-, bury district with -the object of securing further information as to what-would be tho most suitable, site.''
