The offonco of imitating a volunteer 1 s .uniform was provided for by statute, but it was not au offence to masquerade as a policeman. There was no provision making it compulsory for a man to go to the assistance ot a constable. It was a common law offenoo in England, but not in New Zealand, 'fhe' legislators, in' thoir wisdom or haste, had not provided for the offonco. The contention was sound-bo thought. Sub-Inspector M'Grath : Quite right. Mr. Donnolly said that the police should make representations to havo an amending Act passed to protect police in these cas'ca. The cases were dismissed.
