Ho was fully fifty longths' behind-tho leaders passing the stand r to-day, ,and he had. run' up to Auratus at the 'turn, but the effort told on'him, and ho died away to nothing in the'straight. Kelso, who fell at the mile post, had jumped .beautifully up .to the time 'of his mishap, .and he may' have troubled the winner, though it.; is vioto;than probable that, he would havo : tired . at the. end of; the race. • The Winter Cup can only' bo described as a onc-horso race, and the favourfte, who was the-hottest ever known in ;tho, history of the race, won with his mbuth open by .fully six lengthk 'That he.is a gbod horse admits of no; doubtj" and hia owner; Mr. M'Man a way', should win .many more good rpces with him, this season. Despite the fact that North■Eaist won 'easily, 'King Post was - very unlucky.: was prornineht" in the early stages, but'W'aS found wanting at the finish. J. Hall rode a .masterful race on Nadador in the Grand: National Steeplechase, and, as was predicted by several good judges, he cut off all the corners, and to use tho words of an authority "went wher© a hare would not.go." The'old mare won full of riimiiiig, arid: her ■ victory :,was a- very popular one, though ■'she was a big outsider/ She has now- won ten steeplechases and oyer £3000 iri stakes.' \ Her victories include the-Wa-

Hall haa-ridden the winner of the'event as he had the mount on jEclair 'two years ago: •Lo Bedu. was badly injured when ho fell in tho big steeplechaso, and it is doubtful if he will ever race again. So_ far, as can bo ascertained Capitol has sustained' no injuries by' his fall, and he may 'be able to race again on Thursday or Saturday. Deeble intends to accept with him in tho'Beaufort Steeplechase for Thursday, and, if necessary, he can scratch him on the day. A rumour went round the course to-day that Nolan had been killed when Eurus fell with him.;- Happily, it was not 60,_ and the Englich rider only Sustained a slight concussion. ■ ■

. Compass, on whom Delany was seen to great advantage, won the Jumpers' Flat race in a manner suggesting that he will bo a hard horse to. beat in other races at tlio meotiirj;. Delany had been wasting very Lard U ride hirn, und he was, much distressed .on returning to scale. The Porirua-trained horse Lovell won the Enfield Steeplechase very, comfortably. He is a sure starter in the Hunt Club.Cup, and, as in the Enfield Steeplechase, he will bo ridden by H.
