WELLINGTON MUSICAL UNION: - "ELIJAH," This evening Mendelssohn's splendid, oratorio, "Elijah," will bo given in the Town Hall, under , the auspices of the Musical Union. The performance should bo a .memorable one, being a tribute to the memory' of Mendelssohn, on Iho occasion of the centenary of birth. Everybody connected, with the production has worked hard to make it worthy of the occasion. "Elijah" is a work that has made, musical history, and in it Mendelssohn has risen to the height of an absorbing theme. The music abounds in tenderness, power, and dramatic fire. 'In its deep human interest it appeals to all, the musically learned and unlearned alike. Wellington will this evening range itself with the cultivated communities of Europe in doing honour to the memory of the man, whose music is loved in the Old World and the new. On Thursday evening the miscellaneous performance takes plac®; ,V . • "JANE." . ' The Mountebank Dramatic Club opens its three night 6eason on Wednesday next in the comedy "Jane." Tho cast for this production is verv strong, and includes tho following:The Misses A. Quirke, G. Nannestad, IC. Evensen, and M. Marshall," Messrs. F. Lampcn, E. ! Porter, L. D'Chateau, 1 V. Rhind, and W. D. Isaacs. The comedj;is very funny, and .theatregoers should not miss seeing it. The box plan is filling rapidly, and intending patron's are advised to book their seats as early as possible. The Mayor and Mayoress, and other leading citizens, will be present on Friday night.
