-9 ' THE TARIFF WON. (By Telegraph—l'rosa ABSoclatloD.-OoDyrlelit.) Now York, August 8. Twenty-Transatlantic steamers failed to race into New York in time, to enable their cargoes to escape the new tariff.. Importers are angry because the Custom House closed at 5 o'clock, causing them a loss, of £25,000 sterling.
