The tug Champion, whjch towed the Leicester Castle from Auckland to Sydney, ran into heavy westerly weather after rounding the North Cape, jm<\ the gales continued all tho way. They reached a climax on August 4, when no , headway was made for twentyfour hours. The Leicester Castle was then Tolling fearfully, . but the tug managed, throughout to keep the track followed by steamers, excepting once, when she was fourteen miles off the route. The Duckenfiold; which'went to assist; was not sighted. But for -.the gales, tho tow was uneventful. (Rec, August 9, 0.30 a.m.) ' V • i Sydney, August 8. The barque Selwyn Craig, from Auckland, arrived to-day. She was bound for Melbourne, but met with bad weather off the coast. 'She was for 18 days battling off Cape Howe, and the gales drove her eastward.' She decided to make for Sydney. She is not damaged. ' ,
