ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A TWENTY FEET FALL. ACCIDENT TO MR JAMES TREVOR A rather senous accident befell Mr Jas Treyor, the well-known contractor, and a member of tho Wellington City Council, yesterday afternoon At about ij 30 pm , Mr Trevor was standing on thq scaffolding at the building which he is erecting at the corner of ,J?oatheiston and Hunter Streets for the trus'teeb of the estate of the late Mr. W M. Bannatyno, giving directions regard to Bomo conciete work, when the staging gave way, and he fell a distance of about fourteen , feet on to some boards stretched between 'tho steel girders on the ground floor, and from there to the floor of tho cellar, about another sis feet When picked up, it was found that Mr Trevor had sustained a broken colldi-lwne and a ratlior ugly-looking scalp wound (this necessitating ten stitches) He was also badlv bruised and shaken Dr Giesen was quickly in attendance, and had tho injured man convoye.l by cab to his home in Adelaide Road, where, according to information received last night, he is doing as well as might bo expected under tho circumstances I

Mqorehouse was arrested jostoiday while in a state of helpless intoxication, and was iomaudod for a week for medical treatment. Ho strangled himself in his cell lasf'night. Deceased had boon drinking heavily lately, and early, yesteiday morning broke into a hotel, being arrested when evidently in a state of mental derangement. , Last night ho toro his shirt in strips as ho lay in a padded cell, and strangled himself ,He was about ,40 years of age, and leaves a wife and three children. I A SUDDEN DEATH. Invoroargill, August 6. .Patrick Hogan, a single man and a labourer, died suddenly in a hut at 'Edendale last night. ,He had complained to his nates of feeling ill, and beforo a doctor arrived had expired. < MISSING. Roaftcn, August 6. Grave fears are entertained regarding tho safety of R. A. Baxter, a young man representing a sewing machino company, in this district. 110 was last seen at Waimonga. His dug returned to the hotel whero he was staying, but ho has not since been heard of.
