A-.dcputaition. from the Women's Christian ■'femporanco Union waited on his Worship the Mayor yestorday, and asked for 'the use of .the Council Chamber for the purpose of giving, a public reception to Mrs. Lent Stevenson, tho well-known lecturer. Mr. It. A. Wright, M.P., introduced the deputation, and Mrs. Boxall and Miss'Miison explained tho reasons which prompted tho union to make tho request. Dr. Newman pointed out that ns a general rule ho set lus' face against public receptions, unless really good cause could bo shown that such were altogether desirable. In'the present instance, ho considered tho visitor should bo received as a distinguished visitor. Thopublio reception will oe trivoa on September 4.
