DISTRICT CRICKET.

WELLINGTON SOUTH CLUB,

WEtLINGTON NORTH. The Wellington. North District Cricket Club was ■inaugurated last, evening at a meeting held in the Chamber of'Commorco, at which Mr. A. T. Bate presided. Mr. M. Luckie intimated that the meeting was only a preliminary one.to organise the club in accordance with the district scheme adopted by the Cricket Association. It was hoped to hold the first annual meeting' in three, weeks' time. , Tho following were \ elected to form a committee, two of whom aro to act as delegates to confer with the other clubs regarding rules:—Messrs. A. T. Bate, W. R. S. Hickson, M. Luckie, C. A v Richardson, and 13. Staples. Mr. J. M'Kenzie was appointed interim secretary. '. *' A short discussion took place on the subject of practice grounds, and members agreed that when the club had been properly established two grounds would be necessary for practice. It was hoped to obtain Anderson Park and Kelburno Park eventually, but,, this season, the club desired the use of portion of the Basing Reserve. The suggestion was mado that several of the old clubs now being disestablished might see their way to present to the Cricket Association some of their material, which would save expense to the new clubs. WELLINGTON CENTRAL CLUB. Only a couple of'dozen prospective members weiQ present : "at the meeting called by the Wellington Cricket Association for the formation of a controlling : body to

govern the interests of the .Wellington Central Club in the now.'district, cricket scheme, which is to supersede club cricket next seaMr. A. Wiren, representing the association, explained-the proceedings which had' led up to: the-adoption of the district; scheme, and incidentally mentioned that Wellington Central would be in a fortunate position, as they would have the Basin Reserve for a ground aslong,as there was a Basin Reserve. Kelburne Park might be available for Wellington North or Victoria College, or it might noi, /but in airy-case, Vthe Basinjwould be the'genoral, ground for all districts for-.two or. three..years to come. The question as to whether a district would;be strong enough, to put two -senior teams in the-field was discussed.-■/; Mr. Hyams said that such a proposal was against the district scheme ideal -. ■ ' I Mr. Claude Hickson pointed out, that the senior teams , under the now scheme . were an odd number (seven), and that- if- the strongest .district wore .allowed, to put in an A and B team, it would square the numbers.' :"...■ ••'.... • ■ •

The chairman (Mr. F. Laws) -remarked that it might, be rather rough -on a district that was particularly strong in senior players,- if- some of these were forced to play in the junior' grade. : - .-'.% . ■. > Mr. AViren stated that the trouble had cropped up in Sydney,'and had; been met by cutting some; of the original districts into two., ; .He suggested that .they might get a provisional committee and .secretary -to fix up preliminary matters. A' meeting of cricketers interested in the formation of a .Wellington South .District Club was hold in St. Thomas's Schoolroom last evening, Mr. W. A. Parton presiding over a gathering, of. thirteen enthusiasts. After; formally deciding' to form the club, Mr. i'rauk.Alpe was elected hon. secretary pro tern. A_ provisional committee was elected, L. T. Cobcroft, (*.. ochmoll, Suckling, Parton, and- Donaldson. The delegates to the Wellington Cricket Association will be Messrs. Alpe and Parton'
