' An exceedingly sad accident (reported yce«' terday) happsUed at the Terrace End School on Wednesday afternoon, when a little, boy. named Robert Edward Larson, eight years of 'age, was drowned, in a disused, gravel-pit., in tho vicinity of the school. Owing to tiioirecent heavy: rains the water in tho. pit had become very deep, and a number of clnldroh ■ ;were amusing themselveo by throwing sticke and stones, into the water, when the do? ceased, who was wading,in the shallow' part,> suddenly stepped' over'.tlie edge and fell into' deep water and was drowned. The pit was recognised_ as dangeroue, but, the' Borough Council miriimised the danger ra much as possible by'erecting'a board.fence along tho froiitage, audthe school childioi were 'forbidden to go near it. At tho inqiiost held •by CaptainMowlem (district coroner) a,verdict or accidentally; drowned was; returned. At Foxtoii last night a, v seaman ■ named Miohael Louis,, belonging to, the .steamer Moa, met,with a,-fatal.accident. .It,appears that in. tflie morning deceased had received his wages, and spent the day; in 'Foxton. Abont 10 p.m. he >vas returning tbe'worse for liquor, when he stumbled, on die[gangway, and fell into the; water. Ho'was brought as/horo \vitbiu, two , minutes, but though medical aid was promptly available he succumbed. It is surmieod that he struck the wharf in falling. , . Friends of Mrs. Laura Ronborg will regret to hear of her death; whichi.took place last night. Tho deceased lady, who was 74 years of ago,, was tho relict'of the late Mr. Edward Ronberg, .wholnrrivod in .tbe colony in. 1879, and took up land ,on Foxton line. Mre.lloiiberg was highly respected bycv.ery-. ono who knew her. Latterly ehe hid been living with her daughter. , , '".''.. Tho annual meeting of the North Lsland Poultry Association >ras held this aftornon.. Mr. Thompson moved, that tho of the association be removed to Auckland. Mr. Hart seconded the motion, He.dbserved sinoo the headquarters were removed from Wellington there had been nothing but trouble. Ho was against A. and P; Associations running poultry shows, as tho "fancy" wero the proper people'to run fboso evenia. The chairman said that be weald prefer to havie tho headquarters at Ha'wera. ■ Tho motion was carried unanimously. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. J... Tho question of holding a ohompionshin show was discussed at some, length, but tap mooting favoured grouping breeds and allotting championship groups te different shows a motion to that effect being, carried. ■
