; Auokland, July 30. . The signal in regard to the'street / 'arid other, works of the Auckland City Council at present - stands at' "510w,," and according!,to a, statement in regard to • the corporation finances madeby theMay<J>r.(Mr. C. D. Grey),' it will. be a ,few months-before the indicator is reversed. The total debits on' various accounts was' shown' as" £81,134, of .which the general account was responsible for £74,274. The credits amounted to £127,282.' The genoral account, it was stated, had, 1 in -anticipation of the notation of authorised'-loans, advanced for expenditure on works ,for," which loans;;had been - authorised the sum' of £69,693, and this amount'diould lie set against I the debits, as reimbursements-would be made when the: various loans were' placed.,on the market. The Mayor added that loans had been authorised totalling ' £253,000, and ranging .in amount from. £1000 to £110,000. The raising of these loans had; been delayed by-the prorogation* of Parliament;-as : it was intended to seek Parliatnentary sanction to the ■ amalgamation.'of all these loans before placing them on tho London market. • The overdraft'on the, district fund banking , account (which includes the general account and other departmental : accounts), is'now £49,861,. but it was stated that this would bo irioreased to £63,000 'odd'by' payments authorised last night. Some of chese accounts, however, will not be paid for soine days, and in fhe meantime the' receipts,from' rates and other sources will reduce tihe debit. '
