CRIME-BRIBED POLICE.
CHICAGO CHARGES. (By Telegraph—l'rqss a^aoclmion.-rOopyrlßtit.) Chicago, July 28. The trial of a police inspector and a detective sergeant is proceeding at Chicago. The dotectivo is alleged to have received £1800 sterling in a few months from unfortunate, women, which was mostly distributed among higher officials. The police inspector is charged with having received £350 in a single payment. It ■ is- estimated that gamblers, opium dealers, and others 'distribute between £60,000 and £140,000 sterling annually within two police districts.
