";. ■"•' ''-.; ■. in the, Manapnuri's cargo from Rarotonga were, nearly 7000 cases of oranges.' ■ The oranges wero; found to be.iiitocted with scale, and the entiro shipment was ordered to be fumigated before being placed on the market. To fumigate 7000' esses of fruit is no small tusk, owing to tlio limited accommodation provided in the fumigating chambers at Bunny Street. A Dominion reporter looked over th-eso premises ■ yesterday afternoou, and was 'informed that about 1125 cases were put through' ;yestewlay, niorning,: and it was expected that as many more would be treated during tho aftevnoou. Tho oases are closely packed in : one large and'two small chambers, which, are then sealed down, and the contents, are-subjected to a strong pressure of hydro-cyanic gas (priusic acid gas) for an hour, which effectually kills all life that may exist.oh the skins of the oranges. It is understood that, in order to prevent delays at this end a fumigating chamber is being creoted at. Uarotonga, in order that tlio fruit may be, treated before'shipment.'--
