Y.W.C.A, Activities., , , Last<mght, at the rooms of the Young Women's Christian Association, a demonstration, of dress-cuttuig' was given by Miss Forbes, who has for years connected with the Auckland'and Wellington Technical Schools Thero.'was'a very good attendance,'and tno classes are'to be foimed for dressmaking, ono for married women'on Tuesday afternooife at 2 30, and ione,. at seven the same'evening These will occupy two hours each, the first hoijr fqr dress-cutting, the second tor senuig Th 6 Y.W CA is aiming 'at establishing classes for <ill sorts of subjects that arc likely to attract and bepofit its members There is milluiory class on Thursday evenings, and elocutionary classes and classes for physical, c'ulturo are to be started immediately On Friday evening there will he a general meeting of all members of the i association, when various matters of importance / will be discussed, including 'a scheme for raising £100 towards the establishment of a hostel. Those who see much of the work of the Y.W C.A. realise that it is very badly hampered by its want of sufficient accommodation There should be straight away a second room for members who want to read 'and write and talk l while classes are being hold, and, of,course, the need of a boarding establishment is very, great The Y W.C A is attracting' an increasingly large number of girls, and it is'popular as a luncheon resort, for girls can take their own lunch there, and obtain tea at an almost nominal charge About forty girls attend at lunch time regularly, and the more there are the merrier they find it.' It is to be hoped that a big' effort will be made to the associaN tion's rooms. ' *'

A very enjoyable tea was given yesterday afteinoon b> Airs T M'Ewan at "D0r01y, , . , her homo at Derwent Street, Island Bay, in honour of Miss Lingard, whoso marriage to L the Rev. jW Fancourt takes place shortly Between .sixty and seventy guests vvero present, and they wore veiy pleasantly entertained with J music and recitations , During the afternoon, songs were sung by'Madame Mueller, Miss Mueller, Mrs. Richardson, Mis Colley, Mrs. Lindsay, and Mrs Harper Mr Myers played a violin solo, and Mrs Malcolm Ross gave a recitation A number of beautiful gifts were brought, and these were arranged on a table decorated with white flowers and maidenhair in silver vases, and with streamers of white ribbon. Among the visitors were many members of the congregation and choir of St. Hilda' 3 Church, Island Bay. Mrs. M'Ewan received in a handsome frock of pale mauvo ninon, over silk", with rucked sleeves, and vest of cieam lace Miss Lingard wore a ceam cloth costumo with wide black hat trimmed with brown and green. Mrs Lingard wore black, with blacjc and whito hat, ond Miss M Lingard, a dark green tailor-made cos- . tume with Jiat to match. Euchre Party at the Hotel Windsor. The large dmingroom at the Hotel Windsor was filled., with over 200 guests last night, when a second very successful progressive euchre party was given'by the committee who gave one, a short time ago—viz, the Misses F. Guise, C Fama, Q Doherty, M Webb, and Mr. Amodeo. The gentlemen's prize was won by Mr. Mackay, and the ladies' bv Miss Frost * After supper there wis a musical programme, when &onga were given by Mrs. Oakes, Miss lloss, Madame Tutschka, and Mr. Sinclair, all of whom Hero accompanied by Miss Macdonold Among others present wore Mis. Oakes and Mnses Haggitt, Dowhng, Boss, Mahei, Whelan, Dohcrtj, Henderson, O'Brien, Wills, and O'Sullrvan. The proceeds from the tickets go to St. Gerard's Monastery.
