W;' Csllendor ' proposed/ .amidst applause, i that Mr. AV; , Hendry be elected president. Complimentary references" to, Mr. Hendry were made by, Messrs. G. AUport and Orion Stevens, and,he was unanimously elected. Other v officers were elected as follow:—A/icepresidents, Messrs. C. Trovetbick,: G, Allpbrt, and C. Hollard; : committee, "Messrs!. Baldwin attended, and' the 'meeting: was postponed until: nest week. ''■",'■ '\, ■'■''■ ■ Speaking at a meeting of the Hutt Borough Council, Mr. H.' Baldwin mentioned'that: tlie council's contribution 'to charitable. ! aid- .and hospital funds this year would! be.over-j>looo, including , -.the subscription to" the Infectious Diseases Hospital. ■''. . .- " '
THE PETONE BANDS. . •. A conference ■ was h'sld at-Petone last knight between members of tho various, loca'l 'bands with a. view of effecting an amalgamation. The Mayor (Mr. J. W.M'Ewan), presided over a good attendance. \ ■ '-S '.; ■■ '■—,-. ■.".'■ '. ■■'.' ..'The. -proceedings were ,' very . /harmonious throughout, , .and! the Mayor: was i.deputed :to interview the conductor-x>f the ' P.et'pne '. Band (Mr. B. W. Jones) and discuss the amalgamation .question -with' him. ..-' Mr. ; M'EAyan .will call a further meeting after.'the interview.'"■: Mr. P. Cairns, ou behalf of the - Citizens' Ban'd, .proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the Mayor, for presiding, and to tho .Petone Band for The , seconder, 7 Mr..; Hutchison, said that oven if no amalgamation ,took place, the friction of tho past should cease. The motion was carried . ; unanimously. Mr. M'Carthy returned the compliment on behalf of the Petone Band." The Mayor-also replied and advocated a spirit of conciliation.
