OUTBREAK AT A RFSTAURANT. A fire that looked verj uglj in its initial stago broLo out m an upstairs ioom in Gallato's restaurant and ojster saloon, on Lambton Quay (oppobite Kirkcaldie's warehouse), at 7.40 last evenuig. Tlie building is an old wooden, structure, situated between Aldous's building (brick) and Ludwig's jewellery establishment, and is one qf the piopeiticß disposed of bj the representatives of the Evans's E.state sonic six months ago, the purchasers bemg Messis. Teasdalo, F, Peaty, and H. C. Gibboi)B The, j)ngade w*cro quicklj on tho spot, ajid in less than ten minutes had the fire in hand, confining it to the three back rooms and passage upstairs, the Innng of which apartments were burned out An inspection pioved beyond question that the outbreak occuired the storeroom, the centre room of the three which flank the northern side of the building. In it were stoied bacon, hams, sugar, /tea, candlcß, soap, and other stores incidental to the restaurateur's business. All were destrojed. Mr. Gallate eaid that no one had visited the storeroom during the day, and ho could in no waj account tor the outbreak. Hie stores, furmtuie, and fittings were insured in the Atlas Office for £500.
TAIHAPE BOARDINGPOUSE BURNT, - (By'Telegrapti.-Press Association.) . Talhape, July 28. A fire at 1.30 o'clock this morning completoly destroyed a fourteun-roomed boardlnghouso known as "The Towers." Tlio flames bad got a good hold before the outbreak was discovered, and- tho boarders had only time to escape, ono losing all His effects except a coat and vest. The house was occupied by Mrs. Dennis and owned by tho Rov. P. \V. Clarkson. The insurance on the house was £750 in the Commercial Union ofßco, and 1 , the ; furniture £243 in the Victoria office.
