Fraser (secretary) were the parties implicated. A warm discussion took place regarding the admittance of the press, who were eventually. invited to remain. .• ;. •' , Three witnesses were called, and Mr. Allott, a member.of the Referees' 'Associar tion,; deposed that when Miisliii: and ■ Coles (Pirates) tackled Bain (Timaru) he heard hooting, and, looking along the touch-line, saw a party of four —ri ucludiiig Sliirtciitfo alia Fraser—in the place from:where the hooting had proceeded. Ho was certain that either Sliirtcliffo oi- Fraser, or both, were hooting. He could not say whether they were hooting Maslin alone, but thought they were •hooting both'Maslin and' Coles. , •.-,'-, , Hassall, tlio - second witness, sworo that' neither Shirtcliffc nor Fraser hooted' Mas\'m.
