Shortly after 'one o'clock this morning an alarm of fire was 1 given, the outbreak being in the back portion of the Camnethan Nursing Home, owned by, Mr., J. Grengor. When discovered the flames had a firm bold, and the kitchen, washhou'se, and a small bedroom were completely gutted. -'• The brigade responded promptly, aided by a good pressure of water, succeeded in checking tho spread of the fire. The rooms in the front portion of the building were, however, more or less damaged by water. During the' fight with tho outbreak, the tarred felt under the iron caught on two occasions, and it was only after tearing up a portion of the iron that the outbreak was: subdued. Tho contents of the front portion of the home wero salvaged, 'undamaged by water or smoke; The.-o is an insurance of £900 on fie building and £500 on the furniture in the State office. A four-roomed dwelling and two small shops in Balclutha were destroyed by fire this morning. The buildings,-which were owned by Mr. Dirthio, were insured for £200 in the Alliance office, and the furniture' in the house was insured for'£9o in the same office. The tenants saved the stocks in the ehops. There were two small outbreaks of fire in the city; yesterday. It is said that the fire was due to a defective fireplace. The insurances are in the Royal Exchange office for £1000 on the building, and £250 on the furniture.
