MURDER OF A FRUITERER
POLICE EVIDENCE. (By Teleitraph.-Presa Aasoclatlon.-OopyrlchU 1 Melbourne, July 19. At the preliminary investigation of the charges of murdor against Uie woman Cox, and tho man Albert Hay, lor tho murder of Cox's husband, a Horeham fruiterer, tKe evidence showed that Hay told the poiico that ho had quarrelled virita Cox, who accused him of always being diunk when he camo home. Ho (Hay) struck Cox eeveral timos with a toy gun, and then grasped his throat and 'held it for fifteen 'minutes, till Cox was dead. Afterwards he washed tho doad man's face. Mrs. Cox also admitted cfiat Hay killed her husband. The medical evidence showed that Cox had been strangled, death being accelerated "by the weak stato of his heart. The police also overheard an incriminating conversation between tho accused while they were occupying adjacent cells.
