' ' •—■ ■* t— :.; The proceeds from tho entertainment given last night by'tho Taraiiaki Street Literary and Debating Society were handed over to the unemployed fund. : The entertainment took the form of an excellent representation of tho breach of promise trial, Bardoll v. Pickwiok, from "Pickwick Papers." Miss Pix, "as the plaintiff (Mrs. Bardell),' was im-\ pressive; . and Miss Olive Hart, as Mrs. Snubbins, did her part excellently, while Miss Luke, as the third lady character, did full justice ,to' her portion. The lady members of the jury were mostly in Old Englali costume,' and Were tho' Misses 'Watorhouso, Botty, Birch, and Harlstbno. Mrs. "Bar- | dell's costume sufficiently ._ bespoke her doI pressed state, Mrs.. Snubbinß was suggestiyo of the 'novelist's original, and Mrs. Sanders was equal to the demands of the aristocratic character which sho portrayed, Altogether the entertainment was a pronounced success.
