. THE WEDNESDAY COMPETITION. The two hockey-matches-set down for the Basin Eesorve and the game arranged, for Kelburns Park had to to be played at Miramar, on account of the'eity grounds being wet. ; HUI MAI A (1) V. AETILLEETTa' (1).. An oven contest took place at Miramar between Hui' Mai's combination and Artillery A. The positions of both teams had previously reached an.interesting stage, and this added'to the attraction of the game. ,'Hui.Mai had the best of the bully-off, and quickly placed Artillery, on the defensive. \ This attack ended in a resultleis' cornethit.; After ; :five minutes' hard play'Hui Mai again'forced Artillery back, but did • not succeed in their attack on the goal. Give-and-take play followed 1 , but, just, a few minutes before hajf-time, J.' Cooper. (Artillery) succeeded' in scoring. After changing ends, play became fast, and, from a scramble;/A. The second spell'';opened, vigorously, CY- Spiers scoring '-'two goals in quick time. Then Y.M.C.A. set'to work, and Perry, from a-difficult' angle, scored for 'them. Smart work carried play to' Karori's circle; where a breaoh of the' defendants ' gave Y.M.C;A. a free-hit, 'and a very. fine'goal: by Tooby made scores, even. \ Un-and-down play ensued, no advantage being noticeable oiroither side,.until, Evans gave Karori a lead., 3—2. TheY;M.C. A., by'a determined rush (Eiohardson being prominent), got within an ace of scoring, but Karori's left-half .saved by 'a hard, hit. Tho game thus ended 3—2 in' favour of Karori. Mr; Cußack was referee. : , POST AND TELEGEAPH (3) V/PAKEHA (1). /A fast and - interesting game took place at Miramar between Post and Telegraph and Pakekn. A few minutes after the game began Thomson (Post.; and Telegraph) ' got through from .'a scramble in front of the goal. Owens (Ppst and Telegraph) also succeeded in scoring from a corner, and, after the ball was again set in 'motion, a rush, was made by Pakehaand' Haase.put on a. goal. "'■ ~' : .' HUI MAI 8(5),V. AETILLEEYB (2). .' • A fairly fast'game took' place' at Miramar between'HuiMarß and Artillery,B; the former winning by three goals. Play commenced at a good pace,-and as the game progressed, its attractiveness increased, and it was apparent that both teams were, very keen on winning.. Brown (Hui Mai) succeeded in.scoring from, a bully from half-way. Then Artillery oame up, and Derrick scored. Scorers for the winners were: Brown' 1, Johnston 3, Lepper 1, and for the losers: Derrick 1 and Irvine 1. ■ Mr. .Tayler was referee.' - : '• PETONE,A;(2) V.
