Speaking in the debate in tho House of Representatives on the Labour party's noconfidenoo motion, Mr. G. H. Reid (formerly Leader of the Opposition, now fused with the Deakinites) said tho timo had come when all big estates must bo transformed 1 into holdings for' single families. The land tax, he said, was too slow, and the process of resumption of/estatos by tho Government was a fnnlish policy, and entirely too slow; moroover,\it sent up tho value of land held by tho Stato 'itself, Most largo estates had become largo by tho manipulation of tho land policy of tho country. Ho would liko to seo a Bill passed declaring that tho continuance of largo estates was contrary to public policy, that every one should bo gradually resumed, and that if tho owners drl not voluntarily divide them, tho Stato would do so. Tho Labour members enthusiastically cheered Mr. Reid.
