FEILDING. Mr. and Mrs. Fossey left Feilding on Saturday for Napier, where Mr. Fossey takes up the directorship of the technical school there. Mr. Ritchio will tako charge of the Feilding Technical School until the arrival of tho new director (Mr. L. Watkins) from London. At the quarterly meeting of the- Kimbolton Methodist circuit, the Rov. John H. White presiding, 'the question Of creating a separate Methodist Conference for New Zealand was discussed. The deliberations resulted in favour of. maintaining a neutral attitude. A resolution was - placed on record expressing the meeting's sense of the valuable services rendered as society, steward, Sunday school superintendent, and local preacher by Mr. J. H. Field. The financial statement for the quarter 'showed a surplus on the quarter b working for the fifth time in succession. ' An old age pensioner, well on to threescore years and ten, waited on.the Mayor of Feilding on Saturday, and asked for work. It was obvious that the man could \not earn. Bs. a'day, nor did he expect that wage', but;, tho Mayor pointed out. that under the General Labourers' Award the council had to my Is. an hour. •. The man, therefore, could not be employed, l'he Mayor has expressed the opinion that the Government should introduce legislation, exempting. all old age pensioners from all awards. Mr. Trewin believes that this would help towards a solution of the difficulty'in the case of men who are incapable, I .through old ago, ofxloing an average day's work. I - - The Feilding Borough Council on Thursday night struck the general rates for, the year at lid. in the £. Councillor. Bramwell endeavoured to»have the rate reduced by one-j eighth of a penny. Ho stated that the present, was not the time to raise the rates, and pointed out how several reductions could be "made ,to the estimates to meet the lesser' rate.' ' ■ ' ■■ , The.Borough Council is being hard hit by the Valuation Department,' as the Assessment Court does not meet here until July 21 to hoar the half; dozen objections lodged.
