Wilson referred to the fact that many steeplechasers had been brought out in the Rangitikei district that had afterwards proved themselves great horses in other parts. Ho incidentally • meutioned Pilot, who: was once a Rangitikci-owned horse, being engaged in a Grand National event in Australia tho same day. The point-to-point, was' held to provide a day's sport for the farmers, who were kind enough to allow the club to hunt over their properties. MISHAP TO KIATERE. ■;, When it was known that Kiatero had not accepted for the V.R.C. Grand "National Steeplechase, it _Mras generally surmised that something serious was amiss with the old fellow, and this now proves, to be correct. A cablo received from Jno. O'Connell, who went 'across, to ride Waipu, and ' Kiatcre, states that tho Castor golding is suffering poisoned hind leg, and it is unlikely that he will bo'able to race at Caulfield nest month. 4' •. .; '.■■-'
