He said the concert had-been • • o,marked success, and they could-all congratn-' : . lato themsolves most heartily;' Musicians were . • generally - tho severest .critics of one : another; this one played flat, or that sharp—(laughter)— ; but when it became known- that Mr- Hill was . laid aside by a' serious illness, the musical or--the community gathered round him with great unanimity,, and the result had been most gratifying/ r Everyone was; pleased. to see Mr.r Hjll present,.-and all hoped he -would soon ■ ,be . res tored to perfect health. * (Applause.) .The speaker made .reference 'to . the: valuable work Mr. Hill was doing m going out and about amonj; the Natives to try. and preserve the \ Maori-music. It was a source of great joy to think that musicians like Mr. Maughan Barnett, Mr .'Robert i Parker, and Mr. - John Pronse, and others round him, should'have come together on ,a ;.common platform , to- their, sjtu-' pathy.. with .him'in his time of/trouble; • Those ■ in. other parts of New: had come, 'forward most generously;.
