THE NEW ZEALAND CLUB.

: Ji few weeks ago a number of Parliamen-tarians-and representative business and ,professional nien 'assembled! in the Y.M.C.A., to partake, of.'lunchi with f > Mr. H. N; Holmes, the local secretary of that institution; Few. knew the portent,of the gathering until, after >an excellent luncheon, Mr. Holmes said that during his visit to America he had been greatly struck with-an-institution called the Canadian Club, which was established in every Canadian city. It was not connected with the Y.M.C.A., but wae an independent institution. It was an enormous success. Tb« object of th« club was to draw business men together once a week round the luncheon : table, and; afterwards to to a short address by eom« leading politician, ■ professional, .citizen, ' or Visitor upon a particular subject in which he is .well versed, and. can. speak, with authority. -The speaker's idea; was '.to 'establish such an institution'here, to be called the New Zealand Club. After the Hon. G. Fowlds and, others had spoken approvingly of-the 'idea,: a: provisional committee was set up'to-go into the matter, and put the club on a solid basis. Evidently they'have done so, .as the club is to hold it 9 first official luncheon on Tuesday week* July 13, probably in the Y.M.C.A. building. The ejiest; (inv that occasion will Iμ the Hon.
