MELBOURNE.
;.Sir,—There have appeared- in. your paper one or two letters regarding the condition-and cleanliness of Melbourne, streets. .'ln ireply to'rny letter of June 15 some one signing himself ''Ted , '/ has,; in 'my mind'j ;given' New Zealanders'altogetneir;, a. false' impression :of the Victorian'capital's/streets, arid, i.what; is more, he knows: he has, or else he, must; be blind to all he/ saw; while in Melbourne, I would like to point out , to him /that I was defending Ccdlins Streetjonly.as-the "Age" . only mentioned that street-; in: its 7 extract, but, I will say exactly the 'same as I have' before mentionied in my last letter beth; Bourke,' Swanston, Spring; and Queen Streets, a. few: of the leading .streets. Owing to the heavy., traffic to tbe.Swharves, eto.. Flinders; Street is ; not quite • up to the level of the other streets, but -nevertheless I can ( safely say that it is easily SS clean as Willis Street. If I remitted, the riioney. to "Ted," when he got to Melbourne, he would become so', infatuated with" other; beauties .that he would forget.all about theiCoiidition of the stroete.' Thanking yod.'far' your consideration.—l am, etc., - ' H. B. G. . July 2, 1909.
