LAND BOARD.

A meeting of tho District Land Board was held yesterday, and waR attended by Messrs. James Mackenzie (Commissioner of Crown Lands), A. Eeese, C. J. Canton, and H., T.

Elhngham.' , ' , ' The chairman informed the board that Mr. C."J. Canton had been reappointcd ns a member, for an additional term from May 27. 'no had also to welcome Mr. H. T. Ellingham, tho spicial representative of the Crown touants, wha would assuredly do good work on tho board.

Nicol to transfer a section in Ohakuno V'illage Settlement to Mrs. Lavinia Pipei for the purp6ses of a maternity home was approvfd ' It was resolved to dechno'tlie application for transfer from S. Ilutson, Presbyterian minister. / i The Presbyterian Church applied for Section 6, Blook VI, Ohakune Township, as a sifo or a church. It was agreed to recommend jhat the freehold be granted at a price toibe ixed by tho commissioner, provided that tho land was not required for;public purposes.\ 'Messrs. Arrowjmith and Black asked the toard to reconsider its decision in lofevence o thetsubdivision of Section 23, Taihapo Village Settlement. M. Evans and Mrs. K. Poad were granted permission to sublet poition of their section at Waiopahu to Richard Williams, for fivo years, nt an -annual rental of .£45. 'Tha offer of the Rangataua* Timber Company o pay J!3 per acre for tho milling timber on Section 31, Ohakune "Village Settlement, was accepted on condition that ther company, supplied the lessee with any building timbor he might requiro at cost-price, and completed the cutting within two years. .. t Messis. Tho commissioner stated that tho. Aoling Under Secretary of the Agricultural Department had requosted that sections in Ohakune Township should bo leserved for that Department. It was resolved not to npprovo of tho request, as ft was* proposed to lesorvo tho wholo of the block for the uso of tho Land and Eoads Departments. ' The board agieed that' Gilbert Hunter ehonld be,,allowed to occupy .3 acies of Crown Lands near the Owhango Eailway Station, at a rent of 255. per annum , 'It was resolved to approve , of Motion 2, Block XIV, Eewa, 10 acres, being allotted to Messrs. Hod' te Huku, Eaurimu To .Huki, Maori te 00, Ngapera ICohan, and Pani Kingi (the owners of adjoining section), for cash, at the pnc» of *Gls, weighted with jCCO, valuo of improvements, three months' notice of sale to .be: gazetted. i A renewal of lease of Hurupi Block for three years was applied , ' for, by Major Tunurangi, and the board decided to ask tho ranger for a report, Thirtv-three acres at Umutoi were allotted to Wm. M'Kean, jnn, on tho O.E.P. sjstem, at £5 10s. per acte. ■> V was resolved to approve of eection 41, Pohonui Village Settlement, which has been withdrawn from ealff. being reoffered for cash by publio auction, at an upset price of .£27, weighted with .£73 10s. for improvements. Erfarding C. Blake's application,'to be allowed to select an additional area of Crown land for a bettor fencing 'lino adjoining his section at Jlikimiki, the ranger recommended that a strip of land bo ofFeied at 20s. per acre, subj'ect to the, applicant paying cost of sun«y. The board agreed to carry out this recommendation. ' F. J. Eead, lessee of 112 aores in Dyer Settlement,\apphed for 12 months' exemption from residence, as ho had been burnt out. The board granted his request. - Miss H. Punch, lessee of 10 acres in Bootthi Village v Settlement,'wrote that she intended building on the land at an early date /i'he board held that she must build and commence residence within "two months. v After receiving a report from the ranger, the board granted A. Shaip, lcs=eo of 522 acres in the Huangarua Tablelands Settlement, six -months in which to flmld and reside. ' T. |E. Monaghan, lcsseo / of 10 acres id tho Torere Village Settlement, applied for twche months' exemption from residence, and for permission to sublet the. old dwelling on tho land to a,Mr. Martin for .a small rental. bu months' exemption was granted. J. D. Anderson, lessee of sections 20 ( and I), Blocks IX and"X, Euahin'e; wrote-asking, the board to forfeit his interest, as he found it impossible to carry mi the lease. The area is 2755 acres of second-closs land, selected on March 26 last, the annual rental being .£l5O. It was resolved to postpone consideration until the next meetihg of tho board: It was resolved to accept the surronder by the chairman of tho Langdale Domain Board of the leaso of sections 11, 12, and 15, Langdale Suburbs, in order that thc-sectious might be added to the LaOKdalo Domain. Mossrs. Quinn Bios, wroto explaining then action in building on poTtion of Mr, Spooner'e pastoral ruu in tho Eaketdpauma Block. Tho surrender by Mr. Spooner'of this strip of land was accepted, and a lease issued to Messrs. Quinn/Bros Proposals for tho expenditure of thirds wore approved as follow —ilaunoevillo County Council, £i Gs, 3d.; Petono Borough Council, .£9l Is sd. J.
