WEDNESDAY MATCHES. '
Yesterday was what Charles. Dickens would have termed "a piping cold day for the blood to dance to," but it was evidently: too ooldfor good hookey. The various grounds were rather slippery in consequeneo of recent rains, and only "ordinary Wednesday form" was the order of the day. ' ' ■ HUI MAI A (5) V. PAKEHA (1). The match Hui Mai A v. Pakelia was played on the Basin Reserve yesterday in rather cold weather and resulted in a win, for the former by 5 feoals to 1. In tlie first spelL'the scores stood 2 to 1 in favour of tho Reds (Hui Mai A). For the Reds, both Garbes and Turner knockcd on goals, while for the Blacks (Pakeha) Smithscored. In the second spell Turner, Hoy, and Smith each secured goals. Mr. Carver' was referee. : Y.M.C.A. (6) V. ARTILLERY B (2). This match was played on the Basin Reserve, and resulted in. a win for Y.M.C.A; by 3 goals to 2. ; In the first spall Shipton (2) and Tooby (1) were the scorers for Y.M.C.A. In the second spell' Artillery managed to got a look in,, and scored two'goals, both being shot by Gillespie ( Shipton (1) and ' Tooby (2) also scored fcr Y.M.C.A. The victors; had a new'goalkeeper,' who was - not; very'. effective - in stoooinu.. the shots. The final result was 2 goals to l .in favour of Karori; ' For-Karori, Spiers brotlicTS, Henderson, Evans, Cooper, a'nd ; Dyer were tlio, best, while.
