KELBURNE RATEPAYERS.
"AN EVENTFUL YEAR." The sixth annual meeting of the Kelburne Ratepayers' Association was held last even-mgj-Mr. J, P. Campbell presiding over a gathering, of a dozen ratepayers. The report congratulated the district on having just passed through its most eventful year since the district was formed. Referring to water and drainage, the report said Kelburne was now to be congratulated upon having ono of the finest water .supplies in the city, and (with one exception) a'pressure from tho small reservoir specially built for the purpose, which.is not excelled in any part of Wellington. In the : exception referred to, complaint has been made that the supply was deficient in Kelburne Parade, but this street was not served from tho : Kelburno reservoir. Representations were made to the City Council that, whpn the town supply fails, tho water from the reservoir should be turned on in the -Parade. The request was not .agreedto, but a , promise was given that a soheme for remedying the deficiency would be considered, and probably brought into operation next year. The.drainage pipes had been laid'throughout■ the;streets, and connections with the . residences ~ were being rapidly installed. The question of water supply and drainage for that part of Northland immediately adjoining Kelburno proper was brought before tne council's officials, and the. committee was informed some ;months ago that funds were in hand for the drainage, but not for water supply, but that it was intended to make such financial arrangements as would enablo drainage operations to be commenced in the spring. Arrangements are now practically , completed, ana drainage operations will shortly be commenced. The chairman, in 'putting tho report and •balance-sheet.before the meeting, thought that ho had been informed that the drainage operations would be commenced, in a few .and they would consequently remove a menace to the health of the district. Aβ to the city taking over the Kelburne tramwa.y, the council had only-the option of doing this once in ©very,.seven years, and one of tne : sevon yearly, periods: passed in February last., Consequently the city would not havo another opportunity until 1916,. when they would naturally have to face a. larger .expenditure. ■ He''though" t the efforts of.the incoming committee should be directed to getting the Kelburne Tram Co.!s line extended to .the Karori tunnel.' If the association was to continuo to do good' work, however, it would have >to be more generously supported than it'had.been in the past. The balance-sheet showed assets £2 and liabilities £1 3s. 7d. The total receipts were:. Subscriptions/: £3 12s. 6d.; and ''balance brought forward, lls. 7d.,,The.principal items of,expenditure were: Rent, £2j and'prMangViEl. : ''\ ; . .■■,. ; ; J.• '■■:■ The "adoption of ,the report '.and balance- 1 ,'sheet was agreed, to. . ; ''.'.■. •■"" X[ ■•:■■■ .". ;The following officers were elected'for the ensuing_-year:—President, Mr. Alex:,.Johnston ; vice-presidents, Messrs.
