THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION A meeting of the committeo of tho Wellington Boxing Association was held last mgbt, Mr. M'ViUoy presiding. It was resolved to write to Mr. Corbett, tho representative of the association m Australia, with a view to seeing if a first-class boxer could be obtained to meet Tracey at tho Opera House on August 18 W. J. Smith, Petone, asked for a contest in the form of a ctirtarn-raiscr with W Perkins He asserted that Davis, who heat him on a foul at tho recent tournament, was more to blamo than ho was in the matter Consideration of tho application was deferred. ) D. Burns renewed his application to box any middle-weight in Now Zealand. Ho had, ho said, not applied to any other body for a contest. Tho letter concluded. "Hoping to redeem tho bad impression left by my last contest with M'Gibbon, through no fault of mine." Tho committeo tho application. v James Burton wroto stating that ho considered that the referee was not justified in stepping tho contest in which bo took part at the recent amateur championships. Ho says that ho felt well within himself at tho time. It was admitted by him that ho nevertheless would have been beaten It was decided to reply that the referee's decision was final.
The articles in connection with tho match between J Clarko and A Leckie woro placed on the table It was provided that the winner should tako £35, and the loser £15, whilst each contestant should receive £5 by way of expenses The weight was agreed at catch-woignt«, not oxceeding cloven stono Mr. V? F Corbott, representative of tho association in Australia, wrote stating that he had asked tho N Z. Council if it wero prepared to run the Tommy Burns Company on a percentage basis. Besides, tho boxing display, Burns had some very interesting films, which would help to mako up a gopd night's cntertainmont. Unholz, who wished to visit New Zealand, should bo a draw with, say, Tim Tracey, if Tracey beat Turner, as ho thought ho might George Cooper, lato of England, asked for a match with Tracoy, Griffin, Murphy, or Turner. Ho stated that he had participated in over two hundred and thirty contests in England and Franco He was willing to have a six-round try-out with any of the boxers ho had mentioned Among thoso whom ho had met wero Driscoll, Moran, Summers, Robson, Edwards, otc .It was decided to hold ovor tho application Father Sl'Donald acknowledged the courtesy which Fathers Goggin, Graham, and himsolf had received during their visit to tho last boxing tourney. Ho wished to know if tho association had any old gloves which it could donate to tho Boys' Club at Nowtown. Tho boys thoro, who ranged from thirteen to sixteen years, woro intensely keen on the noblo and strenuous art of solf-dofonoe, and their vory willing bouts formed a considerable S&rt of tho evening's programmo It was reply that tho application would be considered at tho end of tho season.
