FOOTBALL IN WELLINGTON.
Sir, —What a long time it takes some people to find out that a man phjing junior for one ..club can betten himself by placing for a senior team in the same season It has been in Wellington for tho past 20 years/this transfer business Men do that in everyday life. A shift from one firm to anothor does not, as a rule, moan a stop down the ladder I might point out that Slater and Tonnerhill aro members of the Poneke Club, Slater about 12 or 15 yeari standing, and Tannorhill about three years ','Ted Wilson" then goes on to attack a club which has been in the forefront of New Zealand .clubs for tho past 26 years A sneer like Jus shows an old grudge Tho Poneke Club includes among its office-bearers Dr 1 Newman and other protnincrt citizens, good and true But, cheer up, "Ted," tho Poneko Club will be going strong when jou aro forgotten. You ,statd that other people won't omy'us our wins, but if >ou happen to bo at Athletic Park when Poneke wins the championship for season 1009 (and I think it wilPcomo off) you will seo that public favours a club that has aluajs tried to gi>o them good clean footbill , The fact that i clubs have the right to play junior men from other clubs often means bringing out I a, player, who perhaps would not otherwise be heard of A case in point a forward in the Poneko team nho Joined the Oriental Club last j ear could not get a place ui tho first or second fifteen Ho camo on to I'o neke, played three games junior, got his place m tho first fifteen, and has kept it eyor since, and I am picking him to, got his ropj cap "this year'—l am,"etc., ' T ' , , FAIR PLAY.
