WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tho monthly meeting - of tho Wellington Harbour Board was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Mr. T. if. Wilford (chairman). Dr. Newman, and Messrs. 1?. Fletcher, JJ. Coht-n. J. W. M'Ewan, C. W. Jones, 0. E. Darnell, F. G. Bolton, and F. 11. Fraser. FINANCE. Tho following credit balances at the bank were' reported:—Cnrrent account, £33,145 12s. Id.; imprest account, £817' 10a. 6d.; on fixed deposit, £70,000. , Payments as follow "were authorised:— Accounts and wages, £11,D98 6s. 3d.; progross payments on contracts, £2017 176. 6d.; salaries for Juno, £768 10s. lid.; total, 14s. Bd. The board decided, on tho recommondatioii of th«'Wharves, and Accounto Committee, to redeposit tho sura of £9000 maturing on tho 27th instant with the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., for two years. J SHED FIRE INSURANCE. Tho chairman reported tliat a cheqno had been received from tho Standard Firo and Marine Insurance Company, Ltd., in settlement of the board's claims arising out of the J Shed firo. Tho chairman said Uiia was the result of a compromise- effected by Mr. Harknesa and himself, as *be appointees of tho board, with tho representatives of tho companies. In commenting on tlio bank balances mentioned above, tho chairman stated that the balanco of tho current account included tho 1 che'quo for £6000 received from the' insure I ance companies in respect of tlio J Shed fire! j WHARFAGE CHARGES. ' ■ It was resolved: (a) That at tboncxtrovi- ! sion of by-laws the following alterations in l intor-harbour wharfago on goods be given effect to:—Stone/ road metal, and ballast 1 reduced from Is. to 6d. per ton; cool uiich I has paid an inward wharfage, reduced from i Is. to 6d. por ton. That at tho next revision of by-laws By-law 221 a bo altered 1 eo as to mako it clear that harbour improvement rate does not apply to inter-harbour traffic. .'
ISLAND' BAY SEWERAGE. Tho city engineer wrote, seeking permission to discharge effluent from tho septic tank at Island Bay into tho sea. The board's engineer recommended that permission bo granted. Dr. Newman explained that the tank would only servo a foiv houses, on sites too low to bo sorvod otherwise.
It wjs resolved to grant tho desired norraissiou subject to tho consent of the Marino Department, and conditionally on tho board being under no obligation to keep tho outlet clean and free from objectionable odour. i TENDERS. .After consideration in committee, the tenders for tlio supply of uniforms wcto ireferred to the chairman and tho secretary, with power to accept after consultation with repießentativcs of tho employees. Ilio board accepted the Standard Insurance Company's new premium for insuring for tlio coining jear. >
