The owner of Marathon did not participate to any appreciable extent in the good dividond paid by his horse on Wednesday. Ho was afraid that Waipunui would beat tho Phaothon gelding. Weights for tho Caulfield and Melbourne Cups wore due last Tuesday, but, as yet, no word has been received here as to the imposts allotted tho New Zealand horses engaged. Guiding Step shows such good form on tho tracts that his owner is at a loss to account for his poor displays when the colours are up. At tho Napior rocoting on Wednesday, a change of horsemen was tried, Jenkins being substituted for Carroll, but tho Bulls horseman conld not geti tho black gelding any closer than second. Mnndic, Iranui, and Lingerer wero double winners at tho Napier Park meeting just concluded. Waipnnui was again well supported in tho Newstead Hack Handicap yesterday, and the Conqueror colt duly won.- The victory, however, would only square tho first day's account. ' Waikarakawr.s'made second favourite in the Winter Oats Handicap, won by Iranui, bnt the Waiuku gelding ran one of his bad races, and finished last. Winning jockeys at the Napier Park meeting were: F. Flynn two, T. Piue two, W, Hyan two, T. Jones two, W. Young, J. Lyford, 'J. Hall,.> and F. >D. Jones one each. Mr. G. Hirst and Mr. T. R. Taylor rodo tho winners of the amateur events.
