It was stated at the annual meeting of the Fire Board last night by rcproeontaiivca of the Underwriters' Association, that in spite of tiho efficiency of the brigades, iiree in New Zealand were groatly on tho increase. Last year tlie insuranoo companies paid over £576,000 for fire losses, and*tho'iuro..waste must have beon well ovor £600,000.
