NORTHLAND RATES.
A'meeting, of ':the : Northland- Municipal Electors' Association and other ratepayers of the district was .held' last night, w-heri Mr. John Aston presided over an attendance, of about-twenty. The chairman, in stating why tho meeting had been callod;~said that some Northland ratepayers had received notices from the Karori Borough Council solicitors/ threatening legal proceedings if' the .rates wore, not paid forthwith. He explained that they did not wish to: avoid, paying thorates, but desired to, pay-them to the proper authority-. Now that. the City, Council: had proposed that a commission bo apnointed to makd an adjustment of the affairs of the Borough of Northland, this question of which was. tho proper authority might'be'decided. ■■: It was pointed out - in tho discussion that followed that in a similar case, when a commisaon had been set up to settle the affairs of the Hutt and Eastbourne it had been found that there was a large amount payable to Eastbourne in respect of the assets of tho Hutt Council. .'...-. .' y ' After some discussion a motion was put, and carried unanimously, to" the effect that a "committee bo set'up to teke action, by collecting a fund or securing an adjournment if any mombers of the association receive a summons for rates. - ; ■ • . .
