Short, the well-known sheepbreeder of Feilding, had decided to form a Clydesdale stud and, with that object, in view, Mr. Short has commissioned Mr. Hugh Hoeken, .now-resident in England, but previously of Colyton, to purchase tho best horse available at Home. Sir. Short lias placed no limit on the purchase motay, but makes a special point of weight and quality.. Consequently, breeders of draughts in the colony should soon so© a horso superior to any Clydesdale yet imported to tho Dominion. An-employee of Mr. Short's has'already gone Homo to bring back tho prospective sire, and it is also quite • probable that' a couple.;of mares .will bo purchased in England.

He. secured all the' Best of tho stock of the well-known Waikato breeder, Mr. Taylor, and, in addition,, ho has purchased a couple of pedigreo mares from Mr. H. M. Simmonds, of Palmorston. Ono of tho mares is by Glengyle frbm a Princo Victor,marc. She was shown by Mr.- Simmonds, and tool: prizes at the Palmorston, Masterton, and Wanganui shows. The other is a bay mare named Mag, foaled in 1900, and bred by Mr A. M'Lean, of Waikakiki,' Canterbury. She is by Prince Consort, from' Jean,' by Hard . aiK ' won ® r ?t and champion at Ashhurton in 190-1, and first and champion at Rangipra' in'" 1905—the .only ;time...she Was! shown. Her filly foal, 'by Glasgow" Lad, when four months old, was "sold by auctidn for sixty guineas, and is recognised as onA of_ the finest mares in tho. A-fjiburton distriot. _'Mag's sire, Princo Consort, was sold in/Melbourne for 800 guineas—tho highest price ever paid for a New Zealand-bred horse, and his sire, Grown Princo, was never beaten/in a show ring. Mag's dam, Jean, was a celebrated mare, 'won tlirco firsts at T-iraaru find fchrc© firsts at Wnimate, and was never beaten in the' show ring. She is a full sister to ;'Mr. Ronnie's Highland Princo which was champion of Canterbury for several years. . • ,
