FIRE NEAR PALMERSTON. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Palmcrston, June 17. A bright flaro in tho sky was noticed in the early hours this morning away to the westward of the town, and the police reported the matter to tho fire brigado station: Superintendent Warner and his mon, on in703tigating the matter, discovered that tho blaeo was at least two miles outside the borough boundary, and ' consequently: they could do liothicg. It was oventually. ascertained that a house on the Longbum-ltongotoa Road, occupied by a young married man named Ernest Robinson, and owned by Mr. Sorenson, of i'oxtan lincj had been destroyed by fire. Mr/ Robinson statoß-that,when'he went' to - bed all appeared safe, but' a fire whioh had. been' lit in: the bedroom fireplace' had . evidently , caused the troublo, fwy when he .woke, tho flames had gripped the whole of tie wall "over the fireplace. The house wm Wally destroyed, and it is not yet known whether it was insured. Mr. Robinson's furniture, which he vahios at £150, was insured , for* £100, in the London and Lancashire Fire- insurance Co. Mrs. Robinson wag away from home when-the fire occurred, but Mr. Robineon, sen., was living with bis son. •
